Director Katie Moriarty-Hopper Signs to Dark Energy
July 7, 2020
Real people aficionado, Katie Moriarty-Hopper, has signed to Dark Energy for UK Representation.
Director Katie has an enviable network of real people, locations, and clients from running her real people casting company, Raw Research. She has directed UGC campaigns throughout lockdown, and has been responsible for the research, casting, and pulling together of content for several leading brands and agencies over the course of her career. Her recent work includes projects for Asda, Dove, Tesco, Always, and Quakers.
Irish-born Katie studied drama at Queen Mary University in London, and worked as a theatre director and casting producer. She later attended National Film and Television School before going on to form the industry-leading Raw Research company in 2018. She has an in-depth understanding of the whole production and creative process, which is a real benefit when translating a brief for screen.
Katie comments: ‘I consider myself to be a real people advocate – with careful guidance and support, I know that real people can capture beautiful and authentic moments. Launching as a director was a natural next step for me, having directed the real people elements of many of the campaigns I’ve worked on. I look forward to further supporting my clients in realising their visions, and ensuring that they get the most authentic and engaging performances on screen.’
She adds: ‘Every real people or UGC job needs a bespoke approach and I understand more than anyone that it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. With years of experience with real people, I have access to a dynamic and creative group of multi-skilled Street-Casters and Phone-Bashers; Self-Shooters and Self-Starters; Story Scouts and Internet Explorers. They can find you a face in the crowd and the perfect location to shoot in.’
Dark Energy MD/Founder, Matt Brown adds: ‘Katie is an absolute delight to work with and has an industry-leading approach to real people, both directing and casting. We are thrilled to have her officially join our roster; she’s a real asset.’
