Huse Monfaradi is an Emmy nominated, London-based freelance director, originally from Bahrain, who began his career directing shows at MTV in the early 2000s.
In 2004 he moved over to music videos and commercials, directing videos for artists including Arctic Monkeys – “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” and “Brianstorm”, the latter of which being entered in 2018 into the BFI’s Film Archive as one of the most significant British music videos of all time. In commercials, his first ever commercial for Samsung won the Best New Commercials Director at the British Television Advertising Craft Awards, and he continued directing commercials consistently for a variety of clients from Mastercard to Coca Cola, PlayStation and YouTube.
Other high profile work has been music videos for Paolo Nutini’s “Iron Sky” as well as working with Michael Kiwanuka on his music video for “Love & Hate” and a live film to promote his album “Kiwanuka”. Live filming work over the years has included concert films for artists ranging from Paul McCartney to Sleaford Mods.
Huse’s first documentary feature “Nothing But The Beat” was released in 2011 through Partizan Films, screening in cinemas worldwide. He has also directed a number of self funded documentary shorts, including “A Life Like Water”, a film about his 80 year old immigrant father, showcased by Nowness and Vimeo. In November 2020, his first dramatic short “Brothers”, that he also wrote, was released with the unprecedented support of Studiocanal UK and the mental health charity CALM. His first commissioned drama short for CBBC “Listen, Dad” aired in April 2021, for their strand “Snaps” which aims to tell stories from minority children’s points of view, written and directed by minority creatives.
In 2022 he directed a five-part documentary series “The Mandela Project” for YouTube Originals Black Voices Fund and The Nelson Mandela Foundation which aired on BET’s YouTube channel. The series was nominated at the 2023 International Emmys in the Best Short-Form category. He was also honoured to have been selected for BIFA’s Springboard scheme 2022/23, which aims to champion and mentor directors moving forward in the world of feature films and HeTV, and he was personally selected by Sara Putt, BAFTA’s Chair, to be a BAFTA juror on the Short Form category.
Most recently he worked with Bad Wolf/BBC/Disney as 2nd Unit Director on a block of the new series of Doctor Who, airing in May 2024, and again on the current series airing in 2025.
