Matt Brown
Managing Director / Executive Producer
Matt is EP and Founder of Dark Energy. His experience in the industry is far reaching – starting off as a runner and building a successful career as a heavyweight Producer and Head of Production. He opened Dark Energy as a future forward company offering a full production service across all mediums. Since opening, Dark Energy has consistently delivered award winning work. Matt and his team are recognised in the wider industry as a solution focused, creative group of Producers and Directors delivering high quality films within a wide range of budgets.
Lucy Brown
Managing Partner / Head of Finance
Lucy cut her teeth in the world of editing before establishing herself as one of the best Production Managers in the business, working with the likes of The End, Harry Nash, Bikini Films and Production International. As a freelancer she worked with over 30 production companies as PM and Producer before taking time out to raise her beautiful kids. In 2014 she helped set-up Dark Energy, taking her keen eye for detail and applying it to the world of accounts, always intending to move back into Production but ultimately deciding that the world of Finance was for her! Dark Energy could not function without her!
Lauraine Bhuglah
Executive Producer
Lauraine is an experienced Executive Producer with a diverse background in advertising production, spanning creative agencies, production, and post-production. She kicked off her career as a PA at Woof Films before moving to Publicis and the COI (Central Office of information), where her producing journey began. She worked at some of the best creative agencies as an agency producer, most notably at Fallon during its peak. After gaining valuable experience at Big Buoy Post, Lauraine originally set up the production arm for Jaguar Land Rover at Tag, before serving as Executive Producer at Saatchi & Saatchi. She then became Head of Content at Rock Hound (in-house production for Tag/Smoke & Mirrors), where she worked directly with brands, handling client accounts and producing projects. Most recently, she spent three years as Partner & EP at Armoury London, continuing to work closely with agencies & direct to brands. Now at Dark Energy, she’s excited to bring her end-to-end production expertise to help elevate and expand the company's stellar reputation.
Phil Barnes
Executive Producer / Head of production
Phil began his career as a professional musician, which opened the door to his early career behind the camera producing music videos for household names such as Prince, Cher, Oasis, Sir Paul McCartney, George Michael and Radiohead. Phil has been a celebrated heavyweight in the advertising industry for many years as MD of his own company, Cahoots, as well as his time spent as Head of Production at leading Production Companies such as Believe Media, Bikini Films and 76 Ltd. At his time at 76Ltd, Phil specialised in car commercials, producing ads for Jaguar, Ford, Formula E, Toyota, Land Rover and Hyundai to name but a few. As a highly successful working producer with a passion for his craft and extensive experience in senior management, we are delighted to have Phil running our production department.
Issy Robinson
Production Assistant
Issy started out as a freelance film production assistant to multiple Soho-based companies. She’s helped to produce films for clients such as Dyson, eBay, Kellogg's, and Citadel, as well as supported the development of award-winning short films such as 'La Ronde' and Straight 8 competition finalists.
She has a Master of Philosophy degree in Criticism and Culture from the University of Cambridge, where she wrote about the intersections of platforms, cinema, and Web 4.0. She also has a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and German from UCL, having spent a year abroad at Humboldt University of Berlin studying film and philosophy.
Issy has developed a strong skillset across production, research, analysis, writing, and communication, as well as a broad critical perspective on different forms of expression and representation. She loves body horror, 70s kitsch and Samurai films.
Katie Glen
Production Assistant
Katie has a background in criminology and social research and a passion for documentary-style and travel photography. Katie loves connecting with people and capturing stories, which led her to the production industry.
